AUS High School Computing Camp to introduce students to engineering design and innovation

To encourage high school students to learn about the latest technology and its use in a wide variety of fields, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at American University of Sharjah (AUS) has launched an exciting new initiative called the AUS High School Computing Camp, which will be held December 24-28, 2017.

The computing camp aims to introduce students from grades 10 to 12 to many aspects of engineering design and innovation. The five-day camp will target high school students from the Sharakah schools. Sharakah is a partnership program between AUS and select high schools.

This new initiative from CSE will include various topics ranging from web development, robotics, smart homes and Internet of Things (IoT), mobile apps, programming, cyber security and more. The aim is to serve students in building their technical and soft skills through presentations, problem solving, teamwork and time management with the help and guidance of instructors from CSE.

Dr. Fadi Aloul, Professor and Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and organizer of the computing camp, explained the benefits of attending the camp for students:

“The AUS High School Computing Camp will help attract students who are keen to learn about CSE by providing them with an insight on what the field is all about. The camp will also provide students with a chance to use their winter holidays constructively. We will also introduce students to some of the successful accomplishments of computer science engineers both locally and internationally and their impact in the world.”
