The Board also approved a resolution recognizing the continuing encouragement and support that His Highness has provided for AUS as it advances its academic and institutional mission. Professor Kevin Mitchell was appointed Chancellor after serving in the role in an acting capacity since March 2019. The meeting was held at the university’s campus today, Sunday, June 2.
The Ruler of Sharjah expressed satisfaction at the progress made by the university on fulfilling the university’s academic mission, including the research agenda, and recognized the dedication and support provided by the board members.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Kevin Mitchell, Chancellor of AUS, said:
“On behalf of the university, I would like to express my gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi for his commitment to creating an exceptional academic environment that continues to attract highly qualified faculty members dedicated to teaching, research and scholarly activity, and service to the university and the community. The Ruler’s commitment to maintaining academic quality and a vibrant campus life ensures that AUS graduates are well prepared for the future.”
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Board of Trustees for their dedication to AUS,” he added.
During the meeting, the board approved the conferral of the honorary title of Professor Emeritus for Dr. Yusuf Abu Muhanna; the approval of awarding rolling four-year contracts to 19 faculty members; as well as approving the promotions of 20 faculty members.
