AUS holds Board of Trustees meeting
Members of the Board of Trustees of American University of Sharjah (AUS) met remotely on June 6 to review progress and approve new resolutions put in place for the effective operation and future development of the university.
The board reviewed the university’s response to COVID-19, including measures taken to address the transition to online learning. The board also reviewed the initiatives aimed at supporting students, including the extension of merit-based scholarships, the Summer 2020 Financial Assistance Grant program, and the accommodation of students who were unable to return home due to travel restrictions. Board members acknowledged the extraordinary efforts of the faculty and staff during the pandemic.
The board discussed operational and strategic plans of the university and approved a number of resolutions pertaining to budgetary allocations and efficient organizational functioning. It approved key operating budget parameters for Fiscal Year 2020—2021 as well as the general operating budget.
Resolutions related to faculty promotions as well as awarding of faculty rolling contracts were also approved along with sanctions granted to changes in certain sections of the Faculty Handbook.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Kevin Mitchell, Chancellor of AUS, said:
“AUS benefits from the guidance of distinguished Board of Trustees members who are committed to the success of the university, especially during period of uncertainty. In spite of the challenges associated with COVID-19, the support and guidance of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, Member of the Supreme Council, and President of American University of Sharjah, and members of the Board ensures that AUS continues to advance the university’s mission.”
