Nibras International School joins AUS Sharakah Program
American University of Sharjah (AUS) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nibras International School as part of its successful Sharakah program— a university community engagement initiative that aims to foster partnerships between AUS and select schools from around the country.
Professor Kevin Mitchell, AUS Chancellor, and Dr. Jay B. Teston, Principal of Nibras International School, attended the virtual ceremony along with other senior officials from both institutions.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Mitchell said: “We are pleased to welcome Nibras International School to the Sharakah program. Our aim is to create mutually beneficial partnerships that will facilitate the transition from secondary school to university and enhance the educational experience of students through Sharakah program initiatives and events”.
Dr. Testson also welcomed the partnership and said: “It is an honor for us to be part of this partnership. It is important for us that our graduates go to highly reputable higher education institutions like AUS. We are part of the International Partnership Group of schools from around the world, and we have been selected to establish the first honor society among American high schools in the UAE. I see both our institutions working together to help students realize their full potential.”
The agreement aims to enhance collaboration between AUS and Nibras International School through the recruitment of outstanding students from varied socio-cultural and economic backgrounds to the university. According to the MoU, AUS will provide partial scholarships to deserving students nominated by the school and offer support for research, cultural, social and sports events organized by the school. The school students will also have the opportunity to actively participate in the annually planned university events, and cultural and extracurricular activities.
The ceremony was also attended by Dr. Juan Sanchez, Provost and Chief Academic Officer at AUS, who said: “The Sharakah program has been a very beneficial initiative for AUS and partner schools, but the primary beneficiaries have been the students who get an opportunity to enhance their educational experience while at school, and at the same time prompt them to set high goals and aspirations as they plan their future transition to university life. The Sharakah Program will be enriched by the addition of Nibras International School and we look forward to welcoming you on campus in the future.”
“This agreement aims to consolidate mutual cooperation and engagement in programs for the benefit of students and to give them first-hand experience about the university environment and showcase their knowledge and skills as they participate in our activities. We welcome Nibras International School into our Sharakah family and look forward to working together,” said Ali Shuhaimy, Executive Director of Enrollment Management at AUS.
