AUS and the German Emirati Institute discuss international collaboration in industry
A delegation from the German Emirati Institute (GEI) met with senior officials from American University of Sharjah (AUS) on September 6 to explore a framework of cooperation in areas of mutual interest between the two institutions, and to promote scientific and economic exchange as part of an overarching collaboration between the United Arab Emirates and Germany.
During the visit, an overview of GEI was given by its CEO, Bernhard Randerath, and he highlighted the importance of academia and industry coming together in collaborative ventures. Some of these include employment and internship opportunities for AUS students and alumni, coordination and linking of competencies through different approaches with the latest technologies, and the implementation of the training approach practiced by German Universities of Applied Sciences.
Speaking on the occasion, AUS Provost and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Juan M. Sanchez said, “AUS is committed to building bridges between academia and industry through projects that utilize the expertise of AUS faculty members and apply the skills of AUS students and alumni. My colleagues and I at AUS look forward to collaborating with institutions such as the University of Aachen and with Germany companies in the UAE through the German Emirati Institute.”
Commenting on the visit, AUS Vice Provost for Graduate Studies and Research Dr. Mohamed Tarhuni said, “We are delighted that the visit and discussions will result in collaborating and supporting our academic institution to help prepare the next generation that is qualified and equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to keep pace with technological development.”
The meeting involved a tour through the state-of-art facilities of AUS and was also attended by Ziad Al Hazmi, CEO of Lufthansa Technik Middle East; Dr. Helmut Reichelt, Director of Education Affairs at GEI; Marita Mitschein, CEO Phoenix Rising Global; Laura Guada, Projects and Executive Support Manager Lufthansa Technik ME; Dr. Sameer Al-Asheh, Interim Dean of the AUS College of Engineering; Dr. Mahmoud Anabtawi, Dean of the AUS College of Arts and Sciences; and Yassine Otmani, Career Services Manager.
