AUS awards scholarships valued at over 400,000 AED to 32 students for achievements in athletics and student life
American University of Sharjah (AUS) recently recognized 32 outstanding students with scholarships for their exceptional contributions to athletic excellence and active campus life. Hosted by the Office of Student Experience, the ceremony honored students whose dedication to community engagement and sports sets them apart, whether through their achievements or their involvement in multiple student and athletic clubs. With a combined value exceeding 420,000 AED across both categories, these scholarships cover up to 25 percent of tuition fees for one semester, underscoring AUS’ commitment to supporting well-rounded individuals who excel both academically and personally.
A total of 16 students were awarded an Athletic Student Scholarship. Recipients included Kumail Hassan Rasheed Hassan, Abdullah Al Hosani, Nelly Karim Mansour Saleh Abdalla, Baraa Talab, Nour Walid Halawa, Lana Orabi, Nooralzahra Khezrian, Sara Hamza, Khaled Abu Amarah, Ahmad Chakif, Lana Tannir, Rand Alyahya, Ali Mohsen Eldemerdash, Omar Matar, Faris Sadeq and Thanseeha Biju.
“Being part of the AUS basketball team has taught me the importance of teamwork and discipline both on and off the court. It’s pushed me to grow not only as an athlete but also as a person overall. Receiving the athletic scholarship has been incredibly motivating for me. It affirms all the hard work and commitment I’ve put into my sport, and it gives me the confidence to continue persevering, knowing that my journey at AUS is supported. Personally, I view this scholarship as more than just financial support—it is an investment in my future and my passion for basketball,” said Nour Walid Halawa.
Another 16 students were awarded the Active Student Scholarship. The rewarded students were Muhammad Vidha, Sanjana Monish Bharwani, Oussama Jamal, Larine Abdallah Yassine, Ezzeddin Diab, Khadijah Minhas, Fahad Mahmood, Farah Khanfar, Snikita Moka, Haya Mohamad Taifour, Mohammed Arman Imtiaz Chy, Kareem Mazen Yaser Said Ismail, Maryam Yaseen Khan, Syed Arfan Hussain, Iryn Sara Tony and Hamza Mustafa Ratlami.
“I am part of the Student Leadership Program as a Lead Presenter, where I help students develop leadership skills such as public speaking, networking and communication. I also serve as the Vice President of the Entrepreneurship Club and the Creative Director of the podcast Tea with Gen Z. These roles have taught me valuable lessons in leading teams, managing projects and creating meaningful impact. Helping others grow and seeing projects come to life has only strengthened my passion for leadership and innovation. Receiving this scholarship was a huge relief, as I had worked toward it for years. The 25 percent tuition reduction eases the financial burden on my parents, which means a lot to me. Beyond that, earning this recognition from AUS makes me incredibly proud and motivates me to continue striving for excellence,” said Oussama Jamal.
For students like Halawa and Jamal, AUS is more than an academic institution—it’s a place that nurtures their leadership skills and well-being, allowing them to grow as individuals through a holistic, fun and diverse student experience.
Shaima Bin Taliah, Acting Vice Chancellor for Student Experience at AUS, highlighted that the awards reflect the university’s commitment to developing versatile individuals.
“At AUS, we believe that a truly enriching university experience goes beyond academics—it is about fostering well-rounded individuals who are prepared to excel in their careers and make meaningful contributions to society,” said Bin Taliah. “Through our scholarships, we recognize and support students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, teamwork and initiative through their active participation in extracurricular activities, athletics or community service. Learning to balance the pressures of academic study with a wide range of extracurriculars helps our students cultivate people skills, resilience and time management skills that they will benefit from long after they graduate from AUS.”
AUS offers a wide range of grants and scholarships to support deserving students, striving to ensure that financial means do not hinder qualified students from receiving the quality education they deserve.
