Costa Rican President visits AUS
His Excellency Luis Guillermo Solis, President of Costa Rica, visited the campus of American University of Sharjah (AUS) today, January 18, and met with Dr. Björn Kjerfve, Chancellor of AUS. President Solis was accompanied by a delegation of high-ranking officials from the Costa Rican government, along with senior officials from the government of Sharjah.
Chancellor Kjerfve briefed the visiting delegates about the history of AUS as well as the various undergraduate and graduate programs the university offers. He also informed them of the university's multicultural campus environment and its future development plans. Chancellor Kjerfve later presented President Solis with a memento to commemorate his visit to AUS.
President Solis thanked Dr. Kjerfve for the hospitality shown to him and his delegation and expressed his appreciation of the campus as well as Sharjah's University City, where AUS is located. The President also inscribed his comments in the university's visitor book.
The Costa Rican President is currently on a visit to the United Arab Emirates undertaken to deepen ties between the two states. He was a keynote speaker at the opening of the World Future Energy Summit, which is underway in Abu Dhabi.
