Hats off to new AUS Red Hat Academy!
American University of Sharjah (AUS) recently signed an agreement establishing the American University of Sharjah Red Hat Academy on campus. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to that effect was signed between AUS and Red Hat Academy at a special ceremony held recently on campus. Red Hat, which is an open source, web-deployed and web-managed education program, is designed to provide turnkey curriculum materials to academic institutions to start and sustain an open source and Linux curriculum. This will be the UAE's first-ever Red Hat Academy offering open source computing courses for professionals.
The new AUS Red Hat Academy will function as a center for enterprise-ready talent by providing them with Red Hat training. For more than a decade, Red Hat academies have assisted high schools and institutions of higher education worldwide with hands-on curriculum, labs, performance-based testing, and instructor support. Red Hat Academy's web-based curriculum helps create competencies through performance-based learning and testing.
Dr. Björn Kjerfve, Chancellor of AUS, said, "We are pleased to be partnering with Red Hat to provide practical training and experience to our students. As we move further into a world where cloud computing and virtualization become the norm, these skills will be very valuable to our graduates. Partnerships such as these are in synch with our university's plans of becoming a leading research university in the region."
Dr. Fadi Aloul, Department Head of Computer Science and Engineering at the College of Engineering said, "At AUS, we are committed to providing our students with access to the technology trends to prepare them for a competitive job market. Our partnership with the Red Hat Academy is a manifestation of that commitment."
"We're pleased to have AUS join us in this growing Red Hat Academy Program," said Werner Knoblich, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Red Hat EMEA. "To help students learn about Red Hat technologies and solutions and establish in-demand open source skills, we work closely with a variety of educational institutions. We look forward to continued collaboration with AUS as an important member of Red Hat's training and certification ecosystem," he added. The signing ceremony was also attended by senior officials from AUS and Red Hat.
Professional courses at the AUS Red Hat Academy will start in September 2017. For registration and further information visit this link: www.aus.edu/redhat
