Key Dates

  • October 2024: Launch the program
  • October 28, 2024: Deadline for student to submit their application
  • November 1, 2024: Deadline for alumni to confirm participation
  • November 6, 2024: Mentor to select student mentees
  • November 10, 2024: Mentor and students connect and sign the agreement form
  • November 12, 2024: Networking event to kick off the mentorship program
  • January 2025: Job Shadowing
  • November 2024–May 2025: Mentorship program duration

Matching Criteria

  • Career Goals and Industry Focus: Match based on the student’s career aspirations and the alumni’s industry experience
  • Technical Skills and Expertise: Pair students with alumni based on desired technical skills
  • Educational Background: Match based on major, paired with alumni who have pursued advanced degrees
  • Cultural Background: Consider cultural or linguistic commonalities or gender

Mentee Eligibility

  • Must be a current student of the College of Engineering at AUS, typically in their junior or senior year.
  • Must actively participate in the mentorship program, including attending any required training sessions. Available for 2-4 hours/month.

Mentee Responsibilities

As a mentee in the CEN Alumni Mentorship Program, students are expected to fulfill the following responsibilities:

  • Engage actively in the mentorship for the full academic year (November 2024–May 2025).
  • Work with your mentor to set clear, achievable goals at the beginning of the mentorship. Take initiative in your personal and professional development by actively pursuing the goals set with your mentor.
  • Maintain consistent communication with your mentor, ensuring at least one meeting per month.
  • Approach the mentorship with a professional attitude, respecting your mentor’s time and expertise. Be punctual for meetings and prepared to discuss your progress, challenges and goals.
  • Be open to constructive feedback and be willing to make improvements based on your mentor’s advice. Use feedback as an opportunity for growth and learning.
  • Attend program-related events, including the kick-off networking event and any quarterly activities. Engage with the broader mentorship community, contributing to a supportive and collaborative environment.
  • Respond to your mentor’s communication in a timely manner. Be accountable for completing any tasks or assignments agreed upon during meetings.
  • Maintain professionalism in all interactions with your mentor. Respect the confidentiality of any personal or professional information shared by your mentor.
  • Review and sign the mentorship agreement with your mentor, clearly outlining expectations, goals and communication norms.
