AUS signs MoU with Liwa International School

American University of Sharjah (AUS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Liwa International School on January 21, 2013. The MoU is to provide a framework of cooperation and enable collaboration between the two educational institutions in areas of mutual interest. 

The partnership is part of the Sharakah program, a strategic initiative by the Office of Enrollment Management at AUS to promote sustainable partnerships with selected schools from across the United Arab Emirates.

"Our partnership is important as it helps us know from you how we are doing as a university. Another aspect of our understanding is to form an alliance with your school so we can partner to help the younger generation," said Dr. Peter Heath, Chancellor of AUS, speaking on the occasion.

The agreement was signed by Ali Shuhaimy, Vice Chancellor of AUS, and Dr. Shereen Gobran, Principal of Liwa International School.

"These events are a testimony of our long-standing relationships with schools across the Emirates," said Shuhaimy. "We are committed to enhancing our efforts to develop strong community engagements to assist schools in their academic and social endeavors. This is where such a partnership comes into play," he added.

"It is a pleasure to be partnering with AUS," said Dr. Shereen Gobran, Principal of Liwa International School. "We are discussing various projects and potential partnerships. Our teachers are already coming for training and we look forward to our students attending AUS courses and sports events." 

The agreement includes AUS offering university preparation courses as well as SAT and TOEFL preparation courses to students from the partner school, workshops to teachers and students; partial scholarships to distinguished students selected from lists provided by the school; and, as needed, patronage of selected research, cultural, social and sporting activities and events organized by the school. AUS will also partner in the recruitment of outstanding students from varied socio-cultural and economic backgrounds to AUS. 

Also present at the signing ceremony were Dr. Thomas Hochstettler, Provost; Salem Al Qaseer, Vice Chancellor of Public Affairs; AUS deans and other senior officials from AUS and Liwa International School.
