AUS student-athletes attend Doha Goals Sports Forum
Ten AUS student-athletes participated in the Second Annual Doha Goals Sports Forum in Doha, Qatar, from December 9 to 11. AUS was the only UAE educational institution represented at the forum, which was organized by the world-renowned Aspire Zone Foundation. The event brought together over 1,500 people from more than 70 countries, including over 400 students from 40 academic institutions.
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the Emir of Qatar, the Doha Goals Sports Forum included seminars, workshops and debates over a variety of issues that concern the sports world, from creating more versatile physical education programs in elementary and primary schools to eliminating doping at the highest level of professional sports. Many important famous leaders and athletes in the sports world attended this event, including Olympic gold medalist Michael Johnson, skateboarding mogul Tony Hawk, tennis legend Boris Becker and NBA great Dikembe Mutombo.
The AUS students were included in the student ambassador program, which gave them the opportunity to interact with many of these athletes and many other prominent figures in the sports world. They also participated in debates and in brainstorming taskforces. This select group of AUS students was able to take away knowledge and wisdom gained from some of the top sports policymakers from different institutions all around the world.
The AUS delegation was headed by Dr. Mohamed Helal, Director of Student Athletics and Recreation Department.
Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, commented that it was a great opportunity for AUS student-athletes to participate in such a remarkable forum.
