AUS on top in the Second AUS Intercollegiate Bench Press Competition
The Second AUS Intercollegiate Bench Press Competition was held in the Sports Complex on February 29, 2016. AUS lifters became the winners for the second consecutive time with 98 points. University of Sharjah and American University of Ras Al Khaimah secured second and third place, respectively. More than 50 contestants from various universities participated.
Powerlifting competitions in 66 kg, 74 kg, 83 kg, 93 kg, 105 kg and 120 kg were conducted. AUS athletes Salem Herzallan (120 kg), Mohammad Khalil (105 kg), Yasin Steiert (93 kg), Mohamed Adel Diab (83 kg), Mohammad Reza Jafareian (74 kg) and Mohamed Al Nimer (66 kg) won gold medals. Zaid Hisham Albeak and Ahmed Omer achieved silver in the 93 and74 kg categories. Mohammad Adil Shams took bronze in the 66 kg category.
Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Dean of Students, congratulated the winners and assured them that more attention will be given to organize such events due to the enthusiastic participation this year from various universities.
The closing ceremony took place in the Sports Complex with Dr. Mohamed Helal, Director of Student Athletics and Recreation, presenting awards to the winners.
