Omega Chi Epsilon is an American honor society for chemical engineering students. This society is represented by the letters “OXE” which mean Order of Chemical Engineers. OXE has over 60 active university chapters and total membership of roughly 20,000 members, including undergraduate students, graduate students or faculty members. To be deemed eligible for this chapter, the student has to have junior or senior standing with a minimum CGPA of 3.25 and 3.00, respectively. This organization falls under the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS), a society that sets standards for organizational excellence and scholastic eligibility. Their mission is to build a visibly cohesive community of national and international honor societies to promote the values of higher education, high-level scholarship, leadership, research and innovation while abiding by the standards of honor society excellence.
The purpose of this organization is to achieve five major things: recognition, investigation, service, comradeship, and with these four bounds together to achieve professionalism, which is the ultimate goal of establishing the chapter. Recognition lies in recognizing excellence and leadership in chemical engineering students. Investigation is achieved by promoting research, innovation and high-level scholarship. Service is to serve the whole chemical engineering department and its student body. Furthermore, comradeship among chemical engineers is a crucial component to realizing their full potential. All these goals are bound together to promote honesty, integrity and social responsibility, traits that essential to engineering ethics. Also, this society is organized exclusively for charitable, educational, and scientific purposes including, but not limited to, distributions to various organizations.
Omega Chi Epsilon shares many common goals with the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) regarding its dedication towards empowering the chemical engineering student body through various activities. However, what distinguishes the OXE is the honor aspect that lies in recognizing and completely supporting high-achieving students.
