AUS is acclaimed throughout the region for its diverse, open and multi-cultural campus. It is an independent, not-for-profit, coeducational institution of higher education. The university practices gender equality and is proud of having a 47.9 to 52.1 ratio of male to female students.
In 2017 and 2018, Times Higher Education (THE) named AUS as the number one university in the world with the highest percentage of international students. In an article published recently, Times Higher Education has compiled a list of the top 200 universities in the world based on the percentage of enrolled international students. AUS leads the list with 84 percent of its student body comprising international students.
Through the AUS Office of Student Affairs, the university is committed to facilitating the cultural, social, emotional, physical, ethical and intellectual development of all students so that they may become responsible and effective individuals. The numerous student-sponsored clubs on offer span a wide range of interests that cover music, literature, recreation, culture and social issues. In addition, the many cultural national clubs reflect the varied backgrounds of AUS students. Global Day is an annual, campus-wide event held by Student Development and Organizations under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed AlQasimi, Member of the UAE Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah and President of AUS. During Global Day, students from different nationalities display their cultures through country pavilions, folkloric songs and dances, traditional cuisines and more. The event showcases the different cultures represented among the AUS student body and encourages openness, respect, curiosity and cross-cultural understanding.
AUS Community Services provides students with an opportunity to experience the joy of helping others and giving back to society.
