The Metal Shop provides a large set of professional tools and machinery used to fabricate metal projects in solid stock and sheet form. Activities in the lab include drilling, cutting, bending, rolling, grinding, welding and polishing metal. The lab is laid out and divided into multiple zones to efficiently support these activities.
Workshops and training sessions are held frequently to train and give access to new users.
CAAD Labs staff provide maintenance, user assistance, training and supervision while offering users an extensive knowledge of materials, tools, processes and most importantly, safety. A library of tool manuals is available upon request from the CAAD Labs Specialist .
Through user education we aim to minimize the risks inherent in the use of tools and equipment.
Resources
The lab houses TIG and MIG welding equipment, along with a plasma torch, spot welder, wheel grinder, sand blaster, horizontal bandsaw, drill presses, circular cold saw, conventional lathe, as well as a HAAS CNC vertical milling center.
