CAAD Labs’ Woodshop is a comprehensive 380 sqm facility equipped with general woodworking machines, as well as a range of power tools and hand tools. This lab supports a wide variety of woodworking activities such as cutting, drilling, sanding, shaping and laminating wood.
A well-stocked supply store provides lab users with variety of sheet material that they can purchase from the woodshop. For a full list of materials available check the link to our General Information page.
CAAD Labs staff provide maintenance, user assistance, training and supervision while offering users an extensive knowledge of materials, tools, processes and most importantly, safety. A library of tool manuals is available upon request from the CAAD Labs Specialist.
Through user education we aim to minimize the risks inherent in the use of tools and equipment.
Resources
The shop is divided into three areas: as assembly space, a main space with heavy equipment, a secondary space with smaller woodworking equipment and sanding machines. The assembly space within the woodshop provides ample working surfaces to assemble and complete wood-based projects, along with dedicated faculty storage and temporary student storage. Some of main equipment available are two SawStop table saws, two large bandsaws, turning machines, planer, jointer, vacuum frame press, four small bandsaws, two drill presses and miscellaneous sanding equipment.
Access
Once students are in their second year, CAAD Labs staff provide school-wide orientations in the Woodshop. All CAAD users who attend these orientations are allowed to use the Metal Shop only during operation hours with CAAD Labs Staff supervision. First year students and those who haven’t attended the training session will not be allowed in the Woodshop.
Scheduled classes and activities listed at woodshop entrance take priority.
