The Photography Lighting Studio is equipped with studio flash lighting that is suitable for advanced documentation of design work, as well as for a creative engagement with studio lighting as a genre. The studio is designed as a neutral space that can be used by a range of individuals and used as a class base for some photography courses. It’s monitored by a Media Labs Specialist who oversees equipment, use of the studio and bookings. The studio is located in the basement of AD2 building and is approximately 70sqm in size.
Resources
There are three wall-mounted paper background systems (one of which is motorized) that are typically used for portraiture and large still life environments, as well as a light table for smaller still life applications. The lighting rig holds a range of powerful photographic flashlights that can be synchronized individually or collectively with cameras. There are a range of flash heads, colored gels and reflectors/diffusers to control the quality of light. There are small and medium sized light tents typically used for photographing reflective objects (glass/metal) that can be booked for specialist work.
The lighting studio is perfect for a range of student projects and project documentation. The studio blends form and function, providing a professional and private photography studio for all CAAD students. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced student in architecture, interior design, visual communication, multimedia of design management, the lighting studio facilities make it possible to document your work in a streamlined fashion and to take on new creative studio photography projects.
The studio is equipped with 3 Elinchrom D-lite flash units with different lightbox sizes, 3 Multiblitz Profilux flash units all connected with a rail system, 8 continuous light heads with cool and warm light bulbs, base grip equipment including c-stands, grip arms, umbrellas, and gray, white, black and brown seamless (2.7 meters wide). The studio also has an IMac supplied with the latest adobe software.
Reservation
The Photography Lighting Studio is available for use on a weekly signup basis. Any CAAD student may reserve up to 2 hours per week. To reserve a time slot or to access the current schedule, please SIGN In here
Access
Card access to the Photography Lighting Studio will only be provided to students are currently taking a dedicated photography class. All other access requests should be directed to the Media Labs Specialist. Our staff could also schedule and provide orientations in flash photography within the studio.
