An enchanting evening
A soothing evening of music and song was held last night, April 20, at American University of Sharjah (AUS). The university's Main Auditorium was filled with the voices of Emily Perkins (soprano) and John Syfret (baritone) and music by pianist Tatiana Tarakanova.
The musicians have previously performed with a number of prestigious musical institutions including the Rome Festival Opera and The Philadelphia Orchestra. They performed musical pieces by Frederic Chopin, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Franz Schubert.
Syfret, with his passion for German and British songs of the 19th and early 20th centuries, engaged the audience with music composed during the end of the Romantic Era and focused on themes of journey and longing.
The event was organized by the AUS Cultural Events Committee and was attended by students, faculty, staff, their families and other audience. The Cultural Events Committee organizes events of cultural interest for the university community and the public at large.
