AUS College of Engineering attracts top students and garners high rankings and employer recognition
American University of Sharjah’s (AUS) globally ranked College of Engineering (CEN) has once again proven to be a hub for students eager to ignite their passion for engineering. With 220 schools and 27 nationalities represented among the students starting CEN in the 2022-2023 academic year, the college is attracting high-achieving students from around the world paving their way to be highly sought-after by employers after graduation.
The academic achievements of the students in this cohort is remarkable. The vast majority of new CEN students achieved outstanding grades in high school, with 58 percent achieving 95 percent and above, 29 percent achieving between 90 percent and 94.99 percent, and 9 percent achieving between 85 percent and 89.99 percent.
"The quality of these students is a testament to the reputation of the College of Engineering at AUS. We are proud to welcome a diverse group of students who have shown outstanding academic excellence and a passion for engineering. Our focus remains on providing our students with a world-class education and equipping them with the skills to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond,” said Dr. Fadi Aloul, Dean of CEN.
This year’s first-year cohort is also diverse, with 32 percent of students UAE nationals, 37 percent women and 63 percent men. AUS is widely recognized for its diverse campus, ranking among the world’s top five universities with the highest percentage of international students according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (2022).
According to QS World University Subject Rankings (2023), AUS is ranked number one (tied) in the UAE and among the top 200 universities globally for civil and structural engineering. It is also ranked among the top three (tied) in the UAE and top 300 universities globally for electrical and electronic engineering; among the top two (tied) in the UAE and top 300 universities globally in the category of mechanical, aeronautical and manufacturing engineering; among the top three in the UAE and top 400 universities globally for chemical engineering; and among the top four in the UAE and top 450 universities globally for computer science and information systems.
Additionally, CEN graduates are the preferred choice for employers in the UAE across all engineering disciplines, according to the QS World University Subject Rankings (2023). AUS alumni from both undergraduate and graduate programs are highly regarded by employers in the region and worldwide.
