AUS faculty and students to showcase work at UAE Innovation Week
Students and faculty from American University of Sharjah (AUS) will showcase their research and inventions at the Sharjah Expo Center from November 20-26, 2016, as part of UAE Innovation Week. In line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, UAE Innovation Week is one of the largest innovation initiatives in the world and a consolidated effort by the government, the private sector and individuals to help create a widespread culture of innovation in the UAE and strengthen its position as a global hub for innovation.
Students from the College of Architecture, Art and Design (CAAD) will present a totem and a wall designed from recyclable materials. Students from the College of Engineering (CEN) will showcase their UAV hydrogen fuel plane, a hydrogen fuel cell multi-rotor drone, and a Microbial Fuel Cell. Students from the School of Business Administration (SBA) will provide a live feed from the Interactive Trading Floor, while the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) will display its project on "Applied Mathematical Modeling in Electro Cardiology." AUS students will also present project posters.
Faculty members, students and alumni from the university will give presentations on a wide variety of topics at the event throughout the week. Dr. Ghassan Abu-Lebdeh, Associate Professor of Civil Engineering, will deliver a the presentation "Transportation System Changes to Promote Public Health: A Case Study;" Dr. Andrew Klein, Assistant Professor of Management will talk about Iso Truss; Mohammed Seif Adawla Mohammed, a chemistry graduate, will discuss the "Removal of Heavy Metals from Contaminated Water Using Chemically-Modified Natural Fibers: The Case of Cotton;" Dr. Mustafa Khamis and Dr. Sarah Dalibalta, Professor and Assistant Professor respectively from the Department of Biology, Chemistry and Environmental Science will present "Formulation of a Novel Dental Hygiene Method using Micelle-clay Complex as an Active Ingredient;" Ahmed Ababneh and Mohamed Elaradi, industrial engineering graduates, will deliver the presentation "Weight Variation Reduction in IFFCO's Portioning Process using Six Sigma;" Gaurang Desai, Assistant Professor of Art and Design, will talk about "Design Thinking: An Integrative Methodology for Business and Social Innovation;" and Daniel Chavez, Assistant Professor of Architecture, will discuss the Bee'ah wall project.
During the week, a wide range activities will take place across the UAE such as exhibition showcases of innovative products and services, the launch of new national initiatives, hackathons and competitions, interactive programs such as labs and workshops, and engaging presentations.
