AUS hosts the Komitas Quartet
American University of Sharjah (AUS) hosted a performance by the renowned Komitas Quartet from the Republic of Armenia on Friday, October 9, 2015, in the Main Building of the university.
The quartet, known for its musical artistry, presented a fantastic concert with musical pieces that impressed the audience. A collaboration between the AUS Cultural Events Committee and the AUS Armenian Cultural Club at AUS, the concert drew an audience from the AUS community and the public.
Rania Khdair, an attendee, expressed her excitement about the concert and said, "The show was magnificent and the musicians were very talented. I hope to attend similar concerts in the future."
One of the few chamber ensembles to exist for more than 90 years, the Komitas Quartet is one of the most important achievements in the Armenian performing arts. Established in November 1924 by Armenian students of the Moscow Conservatory, the quartet was granted the title of the State Quartet of Armenia in 1931. A year later, the Government of Armenia named the quartet after the great Armenian musician Komitas. The quartet's musical has captivated audiences in the US, Canada, Japan, Austria, England, Norway, Germany, Czechoslovakia and other countries.
The event ended with a reception for the quartet members as well as the attendees, which allowed the audience members to interact with the musicians.
