AUS participates at applied linguistics and language conference
American University of Sharjah (AUS) participated in the Applied Linguistics and Language Teaching (ALLT) International Conference and Exhibition held at the Zayed University Convention Centre in Dubai from March 7–9. ALLT is an international conference on language teaching held annually with teachers in the UAE and the region in attendance.
Speaking about the AUS Master of Arts in English/Arabic/English Translation and Interpreting (MATI) and Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MATESOL) graduate programs were Dr. James Griffin, Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and Associate Professor in Mathematics; and Dr. Alessandro Benati, Head of the Department of English.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Griffin said:
“The MATESOL program, hosted in the Department of English at AUS, is a great opportunity for current English language school teachers who are looking to continue their education at the graduate level and learn about and participate in the latest developments in English language teaching and classroom research. The program will also be of interest to teachers and administrators in higher education who will be looking for opportunities for their undergraduate students in applied linguistics and language teaching after graduation. The College of Arts and Sciences also offers a master's in translation and interpreting for those who want to apply their language skills to areas such as audiovisual translation, translation of legal documents, and simultaneous or consecutive interpreting.”
The conference was held under the patronage of Her Excellency Noura Bint Mohammed Al Kaabi
Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development and President of Zayed University.
