AUS podcast on navigating first-year at university kicks off its second season

American University of Sharjah (AUS) has kicked off its second season of the FYE Chats podcast that aims to support new students. The podcast, which recently ranked number one in the UAE under the category of "How to" on Apple podcasts, is produced by the AUS First-Year Experience (FYE) program. It is one of many tools the program employs to engage and support its new students. 

FYE Chats is now in its second season and has aired a total of 17 episodes, with one more planned for next week. The 10-minute episodes cover a variety of subjects including student wellness, first day of college, making friends, keeping in touch with family, orientation, dealing with tests, peer support and many others.

“The purpose is to get first-year students ready for university. In the podcast, we have candid conversations with the AUS community (students, staff, faculty, alumni, and even an episode with a parent) to learn more about what it looks like to thrive in the AUS community,” said Dr. Mehvash Ali, Director of the Academic Support Center and the AUS FYE Program.

The shift from school to university comes with its own set of demands and expectations, which is why the FYE Program helps equip first-year students with the core skills needed for success at AUS. These include knowledge about essential AUS resources, study skills, time management and self-care.
