AUS students meet with recruiters at CAS Career Open Day
As students at American University of Sharjah’s (AUS) College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) prepare for the next chapters of their lives, they were able to explore employment possibilities with more than 18 national and international organizations at the CAS Career Open Day held recently on campus.
“The event connects students with potential employers from the government and private sectors so they can learn more about internship, training and job opportunities. During the event, several HR managers conducted interviews on campus to hire students and fresh graduates for full-time jobs and internships,” said Hiba Khayata, Career Services Manager at CAS.
In addition to the interviews, the event included meetings between students and company representatives, career information sessions, a seminar on Careers in Educational Psychology and Behavior Analysis by The Bridge Learning Center’s Anuja Upadha, and a seminar on the Substantial Transformation of Arab Media by Al Alarabiya News’ presenter Taher Baraka.
Jiayi Rao, a psychology major in his last year, said the CAS Career Open Day was valuable for all students, not only for those close to graduation. “For first- and second-year students, it is a great chance to learn more about the courses they should take in the future to get the skills that they need for certain jobs. For third- and fourth-year students, a career open day is a great opportunity to get to know the market and be part of job interview exercises. I talked to interviewers and it was really helpful to me to know what the companies' requirements are and what job opportunities they have after I graduate. I carried out two interviews, one with McDonald's and another with Takalam. I truly recommend that students attend career events and not miss any opportunities,” he said.
Dania Al Sheikh, a mass communication student, was interested in finding out more about jobs in the media industry.
“When I spoke with the representatives of Al Arabiya News Channel, I got to know what opportunities they are offering in advertising, public relations and social media. I also attended an information session on the transformation witnessed in Arab media, which was very beneficial for students eager to work in this industry,” she said.
Eighteen organizations took part in the CAS Career Open Day in areas of marketing, clinical psychology, human resources, IT, data analytics, law, translation, research, media and advertising. Participating organizations included Al Arabiya News Channel, Americana Foods, Sharjah Government Media Bureau, Emirates Fast Food Company LLC (McDonald's UAE), Brunswick Group, American Wellness Center, Emirates Nature WWF, Environment and Protected Area Authority, AIL Investments Group, Twofour 54, Pomegranate Institute, Al Jaber Optical, Takalam, 7awi Global FZ LLC, Pure CS, Playco Entertainment FZ LLC, CMS Business Services and the Bridge Learning Centre.
