AUS students win accolades at BUMUN 2018
Student delegates from American University of Sharjah (AUS) were awarded numerous accolades at the 14th Bahrain Universities Model United Nations (BUMUN 2018), held October 21-22, in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain. BUMUN serves as a forum where university students gather to discuss, explore and analyze the most pressing challenges facing the world in fields ranging from international peace and security, to economic and social progress and human rights.
The AUS delegation consisted of eight members, who secured six recognitions. Sarah Al Saeid secured the Diplomacy Award in General Assembly, while five Honorable Mentions were awarded to:
- Ahmed Ibrahim in General Assembly
- Merna Dimitri in General Assembly
- Mohammed Aamir Mahmood in Security Council
- Khawla Alnaimi in International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)
- Julia Jose in the Economic and Social Council (EcoSoc)
“My first ever international conference with AUS was a huge success! Not only did I get to travel with an amazing team, but I was able to meet new people from all around the world. From landing in Bahrain, to winning the diplomacy award, BUMUN was an enriching experience,” said Sarah Al Saeid, a freshman majoring in international studies.
“Congratulations to all our students on their successful participation and awards. BUMUN is an excellent opportunity for our students to develop key leadership skills such as public speaking, cooperation and negotiation, debate and research. The forum also helped them gain self-confidence and widened their knowledge about global affairs,” said Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Dean of Students.
