AUS students win accolades in Sharjah Environmental Sustainability Award
Winners of the fifth edition of the Sharjah Environmental Sustainability Award - in the Applied Scientific Research category - were announced recently with civil and chemical engineering majors from American University of Sharjah (AUS) emerging victorious for their project entitled "New approach to design, produce and evaluate sustainable asphalt mixture using rubber crumb."
Mahmoud Hassouneh, Sara Khatib, Mohammad Anabtawi, and Muhammad Salman Kyaure won first prize for their project which saw 115 students from various universities compete for top honors. The students were advised by Dr. Adil Tamimi, Professor of Civil Engineering, at the AUS College of Engineering.
According to Her Excellency Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, Chairperson of the Environment and Protected Areas Authority in Sharjah: "The Sharjah Sustainability Award comes in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, about the importance of protecting the environment and its biodiversity in the emirate."
Held at Al Qasimiya University, the award ceremony was also attended by members of the judging panels, environment experts, participants, students and faculty members.
