AUS wins chemical engineering award
American University of Sharjah (AUS) was selected as one of the 18 universities worldwide to receive the American Institute of Chemical Engineering’s Outstanding Student Chapter Award.
The American Institute of Chemical Engineering (AIChE) is the world’s leading organization for chemical engineering professionals, with members from more than 100 countries. AUS established its AIChE Chapter in August 2015, with Dr. Taleb Ibrahim, Professor of Chemical Engineering, acting as the chapter advisor.
Each year, several chapters are selected to receive the Outstanding Student Chapter Award. The selection criteria are based on several factors: the outstanding participation by member students and faculty; the number of meetings and events; and the variety of activities, including career guidance, community outreach, departmental activities, social events, planned trips and sporting events. The award is presented in the form of a plaque for the chapter and school, as well was certificates for the advisor and president.
The 2017 winners for the award are American University of Beirut, American University of Sharjah, Brigham Young University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Mississippi State University, Missouri University of Science and Technology, Nazarbayev University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, North Carolina State University, Pennsylvania State University, Purdue University, Rowan University, Suez University, Tiajin University, Universidad Nacional de Colombia Sede Bogota, University of California, University of Florida, and University of Illinois at Chicago.
Dr. Ibrahim said:
“AUS is proud to be the recipient of this award. It is an honor to be recognized in such a way. Our faculty are dedicated to ensuring our students receive outstanding education and are at the helm of developments in chemical engineering. This award attests to the standard of engineering education at AUS and the commitment of both our faculty and students."
