Government and private organizations participate in AUS Awareness Day
American University of Sharjah (AUS) held its annual AUS Awareness Day today, February 25, at the AUS Student Center.
The event aims to spread health, social, environmental and safety awareness among students and the general public. Students from AUS and more than six schools in Sharjah had the opportunity to visit the stalls of renowned governmental and private organizations and meet with officials who talked to them about the various services they provide.
Munketh Taha, Director of Student Development and Organizations and Acting Director of Student Athletics and Recreation at AUS, said:
"Awareness Day is a good opportunity to engage our students with the various private and governmental organizations to learn about health, social, environmental and safety issues. It is also a chance for students to explore volunteering opportunities, meet community partners and learn about their missions firsthand. It is our aim to educate the youth on the many pressing issues that are usually neglected in our day-to-day lives but play a vital role in the quality of our lives and the impact to society and the environment."
Participating organizations and institutions included Emirates Society for Consumer Protection, Emirates Strategic Planning Association, AUS Community Services Division, Sharjah Medical District, Sharjah Police, Red Crescent – Sharjah, The Big Heart Foundation, Human Appeal International – Ajman, Supreme Council of Family Affairs, Sharjah - Health Promotion, Abbott Laboratories S. A., Road and Transport Authority – Dubai ART, AUS Safety and Crisis Management, Sharjah Dental Center, Sharjah Youth Council, Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, Environment and Protected Areas Authority, Noor Dubai Foundation, and Dubai Blood Donation Center.
A number of activities were available for students including volunteer registration, blood donation, eye examination, distribution of informational material, blood pressure and blood glucose examination and video presentations.
