Sharjah Broadcasting Authority executives benefit from four-week intensive English course
The Achievement Academy Outreach Program, in collaboration with the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority (SBA), has completed an English language training program for nine participants in a collaborative effort aimed at fostering professional development. The trainees, who were directors and managers from a number of SBA departments such as Alsharqiya Channel, Pulse 95 Radio, Acting Channel 2, Sharjah Sports Channel, Acting Sharjah Radio and others, participated in a four-week comprehensive one-on-one program tailored to their specific needs.
The program, which held classes from October 23 to December 7, 2023, commenced with a placement test on October 12, which indicated proficiency levels ranging from elementary to lower intermediate. The program recognized each participant’s needs and used a personalized one-on-one curriculum. Individual preferences emerged from listening, reading, writing and speaking tests, with some participants suggesting interest in General English and others preferring a focus on Business English.
Dr. Lina Hejjawi, Achievement Academy Outreach Manager, highlighted the importance of understanding each participant’s specific needs and preferences, emphasizing the role of tailored instruction in meeting the diverse requirements of directors and managers within the SBA.
“We employed educational materials that were pertinent to participant roles and SBA activities to ensure relevance, enhance engagement and cultivate confidence in language usage. The curriculum incorporated real-world scenarios, such as the daily routine of a Radio/TV Channel Manager, a listening activity featuring a radio interview from the Sharjah Book Fair, and email exchanges related to upcoming radio projects.” Dr. Hejjawi said.
Participants benefited from three hours of instruction each week, focusing on their chosen areas of improvement. Despite busy schedules and rigorous work commitments, all participants completed their assigned instructional time and expressed high satisfaction with the program. Dr. Hejjawi praised the instructor’s efforts and skills, highlighting the participants’ growth in their chosen fields.
Dr. Hejjawi noted that this program represented the third collaboration with the SBA, illustrating the ongoing commitment to enhancing language proficiency and fostering professional growth within the Sharjah government workforce. She also stressed that the Outreach Program remains committed to providing and delivering tailored language instruction for Sharjah government employees and the community.
