Sharjah Ruler chairs AUS Board of Trustees meeting
His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of American University of Sharjah (AUS), chaired the AUS Board of Trustees meeting yesterday, March 20, on the university’s campus.
Welcoming the attendees, His Highness praised the Board of Trustees’ efforts in overseeing the university’s affairs, academic programs and development in various scientific and administrative fields, as well as the international recognition AUS has received as one of the most distinguished and pioneering educational institutions in the region.
During the meeting, His Highness the President of AUS was briefed on the university's achievements in various fields. He also approved several decisions that support the progress and development of the university and meet all its needs.
The Board of Trustees approved implementing the university’s new intellectual property policy and updating some administrative policies. The board also approved the formation of the AUS Silver Jubilee Committee to plan initiatives honoring the university’s 25th anniversary this year.
In addition, the board approved granting the honorary title of Professor Emeritus to former faculty members Dr. Yas Al Khafaji (Accounting) and Dr. Basil Hatem (Translation and Arabic Studies) for their contributions to the university and to their respective fields.
During the meeting, His Highness listened to reports on the university’s academic performance and the work of the various committees, in addition to the future administrative and scientific plans the university will work on during the upcoming period to contribute to achieving the goals set to advance all pillars of the educational process and the development of administrative performance.
During a presentation on academic and research affairs, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah learned about the ongoing efforts to develop several academic programs and specialized facilities, follow-up reports on students’ performance in all levels and colleges, as well as the encouraging and promoting of scientific research for faculty members and students in the university’s various fields and specializations, to consolidate its position as a distinguished international research center.
The members of the Board of Trustees expressed their appreciation and gratitude to the Sharjah National Oil Corporation for its valuable contributions to the scholarship fund, and to the Easa Saleh Al Gurg Charity Foundation for its initiative to increase the number of scholarships for university students.
