Three architecture majors from the College of Architecture, Art and Design (CAAD) at American University of Sharjah (AUS) were honored with the Huda and Mohamed Kanoo Award for their project entitled Wihda (Unity), at a special ceremony held March 31 at the Emirates Palace Abu Dhabi.
Mohammed Rowaizak, Mohammed Abu al Huda and Raghad Al Ali, who are all fourth year architecture students, won the prestigious award for their intricate, stainless steel sculpture based on the theme of this year's Abu Dhabi Festival which was tolerance. The students were supported in their project by faculty mentors Camilo Cerro and Mathew Trimble, both assistant professors of architecture at AUS.
The award-winning sculpture, which was also shortlisted for the Christo and Jean-Claude Award 2017, was on display throughout the duration of the Abu Dhabi Festival.
AUS Chancellor Dr. Björn Kjerfve, along with several other senior AUS officials, was also present on the occasion. Chancellor Kjerfve earlier signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on behalf of the university with the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF).
