OSA conducts used book sale
The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) at American University of Sharjah (AUS) conducted its biannual Charity Used Book Sale from January 27 to 31 at the university’s Student Center. The used book sale is a fundraising, environmental and student-support campaign all-in-one. The funds generated are used to support charity initiatives such as renovating homes of the underprivileged and food distribution to needy people. Used books donated by the AUS community are reused saving environmental resources. Students are also able to save money on text books while donating to charity at the same time.
Over one hundred student volunteers took turns over the week-long campaign and assisted in sorting, displaying and selling the books. The books on offer included text books in engineering, business, language, arts, science, and design; literary books were also available.
Hossam Sheta, a senior industrial engineering student said: “It was a successful book sale. It was helpful for those students who couldn’t afford to buy new books as they were able to buy them here for a very low price. I really liked volunteering and helping students to find the books they were looking for.”
The used book sale is organized by the OSA Community Services Division and is held on the first day of every semester at AUS.
